Fan-Fic: Mortal Gods! The Return of Deus, Megara and Mirage

He awakened to prodding, and saw the face of a gargoyle. He looked up and saw the Eifle Tower. He swatted at the buzzards, one pecked at him and flew away. He checked his internal chronometer and checked the local times, and then he froze for a fraction of a second as they were out of sync by about 4 years.

Megara stared blankly at  the ghosts surrounding her. She waved them away, and recognized some of the faces. Dodger floated down to her. The tree she lay under, fluttered with the breeze. Dodger handed her a small package, and smiled. Megara could feel what it was before she opened it, and for the first time since her fight with Deus, she smiled.

Mirage awoke in a tube, and it instantly recognized it, as one of the sensory deprivation tanks the members of Echo Mirage used to fight the first crash virus back when it was still being programmed. Raising it’s hands it noticed the simple features of a metahuman arm. It ran a full diagnostic on itself. Nothing seemed to be amis. It looked outside the tube, and saw the outside of the computers it inhabited for so long, and one of the people he had the great pleasure of working with so many years ago.

The stage was set, the gods had returned, time to find out why.

Phantom X and a team of technomancers had caged one of the rouge AI wreaking havoc among megacorps in the matrix. After complete scans, and repeated cage attemps, they found an AI named after the one that almost brought the world to it’s knees. Phantom X had expected more of a fight. It had been easy to “cage” this AI. Whoever this AI really was, he was not the Deus. He was weaker than even the crappiest comm ‘ware. He seemed to have quite a mouth as he sputtered on about destroying X’s mind. Even though he and his team had caught this AI, he couldn’t help the feeling of forbodeing the minute they found this one.
